This is not a traditional festival constrained within the walls of its venues but is instead an event during which the streets of Canterbury become the canvas for the celebration.Wise Words brings communities and families, authors, poets, dancers, digital, performance and visual artists together through an innovative programme of events that celebrate and explore wise words.
Our 2012 programme includes:
Wise Words Laureate Programme: Since 2008 Canterbury Festival has been working with Canterbury City Council to elect an annual Laureate; a figurehead for writing and literature activity in the district. Wise Words Festival: On Saturday the 8th and Sunday the 9th September the streets of Canterbury will be filled with wise words that engage and intrigue passersby. There will be an exciting and innovative programme of events that will engage and inspire people of all ages. This event will celebrate the re-opening of the Beaney House of Art & Knowledge.
